EP 02: Postpartum Recovery, Mental Health, Marriage and Exercise After Having Babies with Marlie Cohen aka Kale and Krunches

This episode of the Mind Body Mother Podcast is an honest conversation around the realities of postpartum recovery, intrusive thoughts and other mental health scares as a new mom and the evolution of life, marriage and exercise after kids. Marlie Cohen is a Pre and Postnatal personal trainer who founded the Bounce Forward Co. online fitness program for moms. She goes by the alias “Kale and Krunches” on social media where she has built a community of over 100,000 based on real talk and transparency around motherhood.

Marlie describes how she felt “wrecked” after birth and was totally unprepared based on how postpartum is portrayed in the media. She also opens up about intrusive thoughts, postpartum anxiety and other aspects of physical recovery such as her umbilical hernia and pelvic floor after two episiotomies.

Both Helene and Marlie share their thoughts around having more babies and what marriage has been like since having kids. Marlie gives some great advice on how to communicate with your partner and set boundaries with family and other loved ones. She also gives some great advice on how to set boundaries with social media and those who you follow during sensitive times as well.

Of course Marlie shares her expertise on fitness during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond, debunking some ideas around what moms can and can’t do and how to listen to your body. She describes some simple exercises for postpartum strengthening and how to adopt realistic practices and let go of strict routines and non-negotiables.

If you love digging into the real talk of motherhood and stuff that’s on your mind, but don’t always get to talk about- this episode is for you!
